Bah... why is the American mentality so paranoid?

Oh right... it's the whole "keep people scared and they'll do whatever you want them to" mantra. Seems to be working... *cough*bush*cough*
THIS is abysmal. Forget the fact for just one second that if this guy who's on trial is found guilty of child porn he should fry just for that alone... but what has having security software on one's computer got to do with anything?
Oh, right, if one has nothing to hide, they shouldn't try to keep anything secure, should they?
I have pgp installed on my systems, it's just good practise when one has the ability to use it. However, does that mean I'm doing anything criminal? *checks around*... Can't say as I am... Number of naked women pics on my computer? I think 0, but I'd have to do a real heavy-duty check. If I did have any, how much kiddie porn would there be? Absolutely none.
I use ssh (secure shell) every day - it's an encrypted means of communication. Does that mean I'm doing something criminal, or is it because I'd prefer not to have people get hold of my passwords, or business data, or whatever else, that flies across the internet while I'm doing my work each day?
I make use of ssl for websites, between mail servers, hell, even to an IRC server.
Basically, I've got tons of encrypted *things* happening on my systems and send and receive plenty of encrypted data across the open wires every day.
That *must* make me a suspicious person, surely.
